If you’re lost in a jungle of jargon and overwhelmed by the pace of technological advancements that are redefining the news industry, you’ll want to attend this Web 2.0 "crash course.”

It's a one-day workshop designed for newspaper executives who must take a leadership role and make bold choices about their organization’s digital future. You’ll quickly get up to speed on how your newspaper can become a major local player in the brave new Web.

You’ll find out:

  • Why “hacker” is not an evil word
  • How to leverage mashups, RSS and collaborative filtering
  • How you’re losing customers – and revenue – to community-based Web sites that do a better job of customizing content and connecting people to local businesses
  • How companies like Amazon, eBay and NetFlix have learned to convert user-created content into millions of dollars in revenue – and how your newspaper can get into the game
  • How to broaden your reach by tapping into social networks
  • Ways to leverage Web-based tools for all of your operational needs, which will save time and money
  • How to create new revenue streams by embracing “free” as a business model
  • Why the concept of a “semantic Web” will forever change the way information is communicated and revenue is generated

Learn about the essential “wired experience” your customers expect and how you can deliver it. Find out which essential business decisions you need to make long before you invest in new technology. Get a preview of the next wave of technological disruption that will shape your business.

Workshop hours: 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
