Gordon Borrell





President & CEO, Borrell Associates

Mr. Borrell, who has nearly three decades of experience in local media, started his career as a reporter for The Virginian-Pilot, and worked his way through the ranks, attaining seven different titles over 11 years. In 1989, he shifted to a business-development role, pioneering interactive ventures for the newspaper's corporate parent, Landmark Communications Inc. As general manager of interactive media, Mr. Borrell helped establish one of the first newspaper audiotex systems in the country and one of the first newspaper Web sites. In 1993, he conceptualized and helped establish InfiNet, an Internet access and hosting company now owned by Gannett Co., Knight Ridder Inc., and Landmark. Mr. Borrell served as vice president of corporate development and international development for InfiNet until 1996 and was vice president of new media for Landmark's newspaper group until 2001. He is past president of the Newspaper Association of America's New Media Federation, was a 2002 nominee for the organization's Pioneer of the Year award. Mr. Borrell graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., with a degree in political science.
