API summit: Harnessing Data in New Ways to Grow Business and Audience
The American Press Institute held an invitation-only Thought Leader Summit on using audience data in news organizations on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015 in New York City.
Hosted at the New York Times, Harnessing Data in New Ways to Grow Business and Audience gathered executives, strategists and data scientists at the forefront of audience development from leading legacy and startup news organizations.
The day addressed critical issues and potential solutions, including identifying kinds of data to gather and making use of what news organizations already possess, using audience data to inform coverage and storytelling, gathering and sharing data across departments, and uncovering new business or product opportunities based on data.
Unlike a typical conference, the summit’s intimate, interactive format allows each attendee to be an active participant, sharing his or her expertise and experiences while gaining actionable insights from others. After the event, ideas will be distilled into a public resource to help others make data and audience development decisions in newsrooms.
The hashtag was #AmPressData.
