Journalism strategy manager
Nathan has almost 20 years of journalism experience focused on digital strategy, community engagement, digital storytelling and audience experimentation. In his work he has created new approaches for how journalists engage with local communities and crafted strategies for newsrooms across regional and national levels. The through-line has been his preoccupation with how products and strategies can be improved to allow space for stories to come forward and bring communities closer together.
As journalism strategy manager, Nathan is focused on engaging with API’s partners and spreading information to local news organizations. He also works to interrogate and create transformative strategies and build stronger partnerships. Nathan began his career at the Palm Beach Post, in West Palm Beach, Florida where he spent almost 12 years working on digital strategy, web and mobile app development and as a community editor before moving to Gannett where he continued as a digital strategist. During the pandemic he became weekend editor and project manager for Vox Media Group before joining American Press Institute in 2024.
Outside of work Nathan is a father, husband, nature-lover, gardener, gamer and Cub Scout leader.
